Some days just start out BLAH. Like the days you are stuck in your house because your car is being worked on. So after the bus stop, I spent 2 hours playing computer games with Elaine half bored out of your mind and half impressed that a three year old CAN INDEED sit still, make a mouse work, and find the shape/color/letter Elmo is talking about. Then to entice myself, I started the dreaded cleaning of the basement. Said basement is unfinished, is dungeon-like, and is full of...shtuff. Shtuff that hasn't been unpacked, toys, random furniture, a tv that displays everything sort of reddish, a tv that isn't plugged in and is circa 1980, decorations, a fridge, blah bitty blah blah blah. One day, I'd like to fall into a money tree, and come out smelling like roses. When I do that, I'm going to have Mike and my dad get going on finishing up that basement so that I can lock my kids and Mike down there our family can enjoy more space and Mike can have his "man room". (By the way, what in the HELL is he going to do down there? I do not know and am quite scared.)
Anywho, so there I am, sorting through toys - keep, toss, donate - all while Warren rides circles around me on the bigwheel. (The one plus of an unfinished basement - bigwheel riding and rollerskating.) He's jabbering on and on about nothing, when he suddenly says (while still riding mind you), "Thanks for being my mom."
Homey say wha?
I quickly regained consciousness and said, "thanks for being my kid. It's the best job I've ever had."
And in an instant, a BLAH day did a 180 and turned into a HURRAH day. And later, the sweetest boy on the planet lead all three of us in an arts and crafts project he's been talking about for days. We decorated construction paper pumpkins, cut out by W, our instructor. As we finished, he had us hold our pumpkin up for all to see, at which time he made comments like "fantastic" and "I love it".
I love him. It is all worth it.
Now I've just GOT to find me a money tree. Stat.
PS - Happy birthday wishes to Jon!
oh that dub. He is a great kid. I can't wait to see him in a few days. I miss those kids.
