Today, my kids' school is having a 'dress as your favorite star' day. To participate, you dress as your favorite star, and donate a dollar for the pleasure of doing so. The money raised will be used to help fulfill the dreams of sick children.
Warren, of course, chose to dress like Yadier Molina. He's sporting his new jersey, which he received for Christmas and hopefully will fit him for the next several years. When he asked if he could wear it, Mike and I both responded with ,"um, yeah, what's for lunch at school?" And then a, "you need to take the jersey off while you eat lunch dude." I love that kid, but he is a slob with a capital S.
And then there's Lainey. She was so pumped about this day and asked if the person had to be a famous star. The club sponsor replied, "no, just as long as it's somone you admire." Elaine knew immediately who she wanted to dress like. Her great Aunt Barbara, who passed away in the fall of 2012. "She was so nice to everyone, and so brave, and such a talented artist! Remember the pretty cards she made? And she always painted pretty things for us! I'm going to dress like her, and put paintbrushes and stamps in my pockets!" She had a tough time choosing what to wear, and I remembered that Barb had commented about how much she liked Elaine's purple sequined shirt; so that was my suggestion. "I'll need a scarf in my hair, like she wore when she had cancer. And glasses!" And thus, the outfit was complete. Mini-Aunt Barbara.
Sorry about the red eyes and lack of editing - no time!
Sometimes, my kids are so awesome, it floors me.
