Twice a year my kids' school does a "dress for respect" day. The first one of this school year was Veteran's Day. It just so happened that Mike and I were in San Diego that day, so my stepmom Bonnie got the unfortunate task of telling Warren he had to back off the running pants for one day. As you can imagine, it did not go over well. But she held her ground and W went to school looking respectable! My mom was here when they got back from school and she said the first thing he did was go directly upstairs and change. Hilarious.
Today was the second dress for respect day. Elaine just can't decide what to wear, everything seems so great and do we have extra time to do her hair? Warren. Oh Warren. I went into his room to wake him up, gave him a few minutes and then reminded him of the day. "Ugh." Of course. I found a pair of his "nice" sweats type pants. They are still lightweight, have an elastic waist and unlike most of his other pants, are completely in tact. I then chose a short sleeved (because he also refuses to wear long sleeves) red polo type shirt that has been worn before and is tagless. I said, "here you go, and you don't have to tuck it in." Surprise, he still burst into tears. "Really, dude?" I walked out the room before I gave in to his ridiculous tears. I passed it off to Mike who had my back and basically told him to suck it up.
Seriously.
Is it that torturous to make an almost ten year old be semi-dressed up? Let me remind you, they are elastic waisted pants and an untucked shirt, I'm sure both of which were 100% cotton. Get over it dude. Get over it!
