Mike finished a recent conversation with Elaine by saying, "but Elaine, that's our family business. It stays in the family. And let's not even tell Warren that, because it might hurt his feelings."
We've tried the 'family business' route with Elaine before. She apparantly didn't get it - she repeats anything to anyone. But we're going to keep trying it, because she's got to learn sometime. Anywho, I was thinking of that comment as I sat down to blog about it. So people, this is blog business. We don't repeat it outside of the blog and we don't repeat it to Warren because that could hurt his feelings. And if you do repeat it to Warren or share the link to the blog before he's old enough, I will....ooh, I know, I will make you split his therapy bill with me! Ha!
So Elaine got her very first filling yesterday - step one in taking care of her hot mess or jacked up mouth - however you'd prefer to reference it. She got referred to W's pediatric dentist for the filling, and of course, their office is great with children. I explained as we checked in that she was Warren's sister, but she was a much different dental patient than Warren. I may or may not (okay, I did) refer to her as my 'little bad ass'.
Once they got her back there, they took a good look at the cavity, and the doc came out to talk to me. It was a big cavity with a lot of decay on a baby tooth - molar - that will be in there for three to four more years. He was going to try to fill it, but he thought it might be too large so she could wind up with a stainless steel cap. E did not want that, I know, but I also understand a bit too much about the dental business and I know that building up a tooth with filling material can be hard if the space is too big. I said to do whatever he thought was best, and they went back to give her the nitris. (By the way, she got to bring home the pig nose she breathed the gas through - she loved it!) After forty minutes of work, they were able to fill her tooth with tooth colored filling. She was off the gas, but still numb from the shots. She came out with her prize from the treasure chest and her pig nose.
At that point, the doctor told me what a delight it was to work on Elaine. "She's an amazing patient! What a sweet girl she is, and so cooperative!" I decided to confirm what everyone was feeling. "Um yeah, she's not nearly as difficult as Warren!" They all giggled and then individually told me what a pleasure Elaine was. E left there boasting with pride.
We came home and she proudly told her dad how it went and said, "I'm much braver than Warren. They liked working on me." And that's when Mike gave her the family business quote.
And now here I am sharing it.
Whoops. Share this, and you'd better get your checkbooks out.

Wow, that sounds good! I'm glad that your kid sounds interested in fixing her teeth and looking better. I can't wait for my baby to get all grown up and go to her first dental visit! She just lost her first tooth, and she was very glad of it. :D

Our son also went to first dental visit, and thanks to the laughing gas, his tooth was filled in a flash and he went out smiling with an ice cream in his hand. It's amazing to see children flash their treated teeth happily with the help of skilled dentists and dental procedures.
